How do I get a SMSF?
Establishing a SMSF is easy. It really isn't much harder than creating a bank account. Our team have established hundreds of funds and have the expertise needed to make the process easy and seamless for you. Within a few simple steps, you will have your existing Superannuation 'released' to you and placed into a special bank account from you which you can then take over the management of it.
What are the benefits?
More control: You get to control all the key decisions that affect your superannuation dollars. You get to set your own 'investment strategy' which means you don't have to fit within broad classifications used by Industry Funds eg "conservative" or "Australian equities". You can combine with other members such as people within your family and work together to get the best result for all. You can also leverage (borrow) within your fund to access investment opportunities that you may otherwise have missed.
More choice: You can invest it local projects and property, local syndicates or areas in which you have special interest or skill or knowledge. Examples of this might include:
- a rental property in your home town
- a commercial building in which to operate your business
- joining a syndicate of investors to acquire a large parcel of land for DA development
More accountability: With control comes accountability - You are accountable for your SMSF.
More personalised and timely information: Subject to certain pre-conditions, you can often access more up-to-date information about the performance of your SMSF, rather than waiting on year-end, complex reports from your Industry Fund.
What are the costs?
This depends on your definition of 'costs'!
If you define costs as the charge to account/audit your SMSF, then the cost can certainly vary. Like any financial investment, the manner in which it is operated effects the costs of the operation. Generally, where you have maintained good, accurate records of your investments, the cost is comparable to Industry Funds.
